August/September Little Moments

The end of August and beginning of September were filled with a lot of fun weekends. I love when we don't have any where we have to be and we can spend the whole day playing! We spent one day at Chiles Orchard picking apples and peaches. While we have lived here for over 5 years and this is a staple place to frequent in C'ville, we had never been. It was fantastic and beautiful and we will surely go again and often.

After fruit picking we thought we would check out another famous but little known little hideout on the downtown mall. Timberlake Pharmacy has this adorable little cafe in the way back of their store that makes the most fantastic milkshakes. The food looked delicious too, but we only got shakes. The atmosphere was very fun as well! And the ladies who work behind the counter were super friendly.

About two years ago I saw this adorable little suit on the clearance rack at Target after Easter. It was a size four but I went ahead and bought it because it was such a great deal for a suit! It has been hanging in Dallin's closet since then just waiting for him to grow into it. I finally decided to try it out and it was perfect on him! The hat was a nice touch too. He wanted to wear his pilot wings with it and now lovingly refers to the outfit as his "pilot suit". Whatever it takes to get him to wear it each week....

And I just love this darling dress Charlotte picked out during while school clothes shopping. She chose to wore it right after her surgery because it didn't hurt her incision.

We made a quick trip up to northern VA to visit the air and space museum. It was a fun day of airplanes and space rockets!

Dallin and I spent a morning up at Carter Mountain getting some delicious fresh apples and playing checkers.

The view from the top is always amazing.

Soccer season has started, which I'm sure I'll write more about later, but this was Dallin during the first practice. I couldn't resist the "golden hour" lighting. It's always so lovely.

An early morning trip to Duck Donuts, the best donuts around! After this we spent the morning at the park playing with friends.

I was about to get an adorable picture of the girls until David decided to photobomb it and caught them off guard. He's such a silly dad!!

We attended the biked rodeo at school. We went our first year at Baker Butler and didn't really love it. So we had never been back. But this year, the bike rodeo happened to fall on the ONE MONTH mark since Charlotte's surgery and she was finally in the clear to ride her bike again (among many other activities). So, Charlotte was over the moon excited about going!! Her and Dallin had a super fun time riding their bikes all over the school parking lots. Carmen and Aliza were way "too cool" to ride their bikes and were ready to leave the minute we got there.

And on a whim, we went to Cirque Italia - a traveling circus that came through town.... It was fun to continue our Saturdays of fun. We had a couple of really fun weekends in a row. It's always a fun adventure when we're all together!

Dallin starts preschool

September 8th is a day to go down in the history books because Dallin started preschool! This was a day he was really looking forward to and a day that, we know, I've been looking forward to for nearly 11 years... the day all my children would be in school. Granted he only goes two days a week for 3 hours, but that's 6 hours of freedom a week for this deserving mama! I think it has been wonderful for both of us.

He is going to a cute little preschool taught by Miss April Spencer. She only has 4 kids in the class and I think it's just perfect for his first "big boy" experience. The first day he was adamant that I not come with him. He wanted was so excited about getting to stay all by himself. And every morning as we get ready to get in the car to go to school we put his backpack on and I ask, "Are you ready?" and he always says so sincerely, "Yes, but will you drive me there?".  I find it so endearing how he is thrilled to be doing his own thing, but recognizes that he still needs his moms help to get him there. He says it every time!

Walking down the path to the first day of preschool,  he has to step on every square....

After I dropped him off the first day, I felt slightly lonely when I got in the car and realized it was empty. I almost teared up a bit, but I quickly got over it and enjoyed my morning and every morning since then.

The very next day I took him to get a haircut... Wowza!!! What a difference a day makes. We've never cut it this short before. And while I'm used to it now, I didn't like it at all in the beginning. I'm not sure we'll go this short again for a long time. He does like doing the spiky look though!

First Day of School 2015

This summer was so jam packed with fun stuff, that it literally just flew right by. I can not believe school has started and it's already the 3rd week!

Charlotte in 1st with Mrs. Sysling

Aliza in 3rd with Mrs. Eiden

Carmen in 5th with Mr. Hazlett (but they rotate classrooms for different subjects, so she's got other teachers as well)

Dallin is pleased as punch that he'll have mommy all to himself again.

And for the first time ever, I drove my kids to school on the first day of school. That was a whole lot of exciting! We've decided to skip the bus this year and I'll be doing drop off and pick up. I'm still not sure how much I'm going to like it....
