September 2018

September started with the opening UVA football game. This game was being threatened by some pretty ominous storm clouds. This was us waiting outside the gates because of a delay of game. We love having Poppy tag along with us to games. We're hoping for a big winning season this year.

These clouds stuck around the entire game, but it never did rain on us.

When we moved into our Ivy Springs house, there was a pretty amazing play set in the backyard. But over the years the thing has just gotten so rotten. Kids would play on it and parts would fall right off! We knew it was time for it to go and plus, we want to put a trampoline in its spot. The kids and I worked several Saturdays taking it apart. It was a beast to disassemble. I reached the point where I didn't want to do it anymore and I just wanted to light the whole thing on fire and let it burn to the ground. So we attempted to have a big bon fire. But before starting, Dallin offered up a prayer that our house wouldn't burn down and everyone would be safe. Turns out, pressure treated wood isn't that flammable....it never did really catch fire.

And I don't know why we took this picture or where we even were, but I do love this kid a LOT!

Once we learned that it's free to go to UVA women's volleyball games, we went to several. They are super fun to watch. At this one they gave everyone a free beanie!

Allison and Nathan's family came and stayed a few days with us while they were passing through on vacation. Carmen had just started Jazz band the week before and just received her music. Uncle Nathan and her did a pretty amazing improve on the piano and clarinet together. I think Nathan may have climbed the ladder on his way to being Carmen's favorite uncle.

For weeks we kept being warned about a hurricane that was going to impact us pretty severely. Everyone was prepping for flooding. Carmen's 8th grade civics class requires them to have 40 hours of service throughout the year. So we decided to go fill sand bags for service. Our friends tagged along with us to get hours as well. Turns out the hurricane missed us and the bag were not really needed. But it was still a worthwhile adventure.

I went to my 20 year high school reunion. Wow, was that weird! Basically everyone was still just as clique-y as they were in high school. There was really only one person there who talked to me most of the night, and it wasn't even my besets friend in high school. I left feeling so happy that I don't ever have to repeat those years again. It was awkward and everyone was drunk.

Kristin was my best friend in high school. We did a lot together and it was fun to catch up with her. But like my sign says, I didn't really recognize most of the people there.

While Carmen and Aliza were at some friends house, we took Charlotte and Dallin to play mini golf. It had been years since I've played and I think it may have been Dallin's first time. We all had a lot of fun and they keep asking to go again. It was nice to just spend time with the two of them.

And I got this picture of my friend of all the Beehives from church making bracelets.

Another football game. I think we make it to every home game this year.

And after becoming women's volleyball fans, we learned about free clinics they offer once a month. Carmen and her friend Klarissa when to this one together.

We have some dear friends, the Bishops, who we've grown to love. He always begs us to come playing bowling with him on the Wii. So we finally made it over to play. He had a nice dinner for us and then we played hours of bowling with him.

And I often come across this quote and I love it, so I'm so going to add it right here. What an important reminder.
