August 2020

This month started with a big adventure for these girls! They kayaked the Outer Banks. This was David's 3rd time on this trip and I've been once and we just knew it would be something that Carmen would love. David is such a great dad and he made it happen! Carmen with her friends worked to plan this trip together and invited their dads and a few moms along.

They spent 3 days kayaking between remote islands of the Outer Banks. They enjoyed beautiful landscapes and sunsets. And maybe suffered through quite a few mosquitos and a tick nest. But overall, it was an adventure they won't soon forget!

As promised to Carmen, after her kayak trip, she could get some kittens. She has searched high and low for the perfect outdoor kitties and finally came upon Jet and Smokey, siblings from a feral cat. These two kittens are adorable and so friendly. We hope they'll be great at keeping the mice and other critters away from our yard.

Although we've been fostering a lot of dogs this year, Koda Bear is still our #1 dog. We all love him to pieces.
We dog sat two dogs for a friend of mine. Koda loved Max, the little white poodle and Dallin fell head over heels for Clarence the beagle dog. Both super sweet pups and so fun to have for two weeks.

And then we quickly turned around and fostered Togo, the Husky. Dallin has wanted a husky for a long time and when I saw one available to foster I made sure we got the chance. We only had Togo for 4 days before he was adopted, but he was certainly a gentle giant.

Charlotte with her friend Nikayah had a day of crafting and creativity. They made cupcakes and slime and all sort of other fun things. These two always have a good time together.

And Dallin got have his own high adventure with Dad. They overnight hiked to Mopin Field with Naomi and her dad.  I think Dallin loved the experience and hopes to do it more often, sans any girls next time.

Dallin also got invited to the river to play with his buddies from school. We've spent so much time outside and being creative for playdates since everyone has to social distance all the time. This was a great way for these boys to get some energy out on a hot day.

I completely surprised this girl by taking her to get her ears pierced. We've always had the rule that you had to be 12 to get this done, but I honestly felt like we've had to say "no" to say many things over the past few months, that this was something I could say "yes" to. We decided not to tell anyone and it took her sisters a while to even notice.

We've lived in Charlottesville for 10 years had still had never been to Sugar Hollow. We decided to finally make the trek up there. Turns out it had rained quite too much and the river was too deep to cross, but we had a great walk and enjoyed the parts we saw. Dallin even found this cute rainbow rock along the trail.

This is the Sugar Hollow Dam which is the dam in the movie Evan Almighty.
