June 2023

June means church camps around here. This year for Young Women's camp we went to Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes National Park. (Basically the same family vacation we did last summer) Carmen and Aliza were both YCL's this year. We tent camped in the rain and it turned out to be the coldest camping I've ever done! No one was prepared for how cold it got. It stayed in the 40's all week and at night got much colder. I didn't even pack a sweatshirt or pants. Once we realized just how miserable it was going to be all week, we called on some earthly angels to come to our rescue. Some of the grandma's (including Oma) who came to watch grandkids so moms could be leaders at camp, gathered all the extra blankets, hoodies, socks and hot chocolate they could and delivered it us to help us stay warm. I'm sure we sold out every store within miles of all their hot chocolate that week.

The oldest girls went on an overnight kayaking/hiking trip and came back with so many stories to be told.
We debated a long time about taking everyone else on a day kayaking trip and finally decided to just do it. While it was freezing and some of the most painful kayaking I've ever done, I think we were all glad we went.

I lost count of how many girls were crammed in this car trying to keep warm while waiting for everyone to get off the river.

I love when we have youth night at the beach because everybody comes! It's always a fun time with a gorgeous sunset.  The Paw Paw ward may be tiny but we know how to have a good time.

This summer Aliza has decided to have her own car detailing business. She's made come great fliers to pass around the neighborhood and I've helped her advertise on social media. She's already gotten a few cars. Charlotte decided to be a swim assistant this summer for a lady who teaches swim classes at her home. And Carmen is working as an EMT.

But they all took a break from work to go to EFY in Ohio for the week. They each ended up having a good time with unique experiences.

While the girls were off at EFY, Dallin had his friends together for a fun day of arcades and Slurpees. We had the whole place to ourselves for a while until a school bus dropped of a load of kids. After that we decided to leave and get slurpees.

Another fun thing was Dallin finally got to cash in on his Christmas present and go to the Dude Perfect show in Grand Rapids. He got to go with his friend Clark and we met up with another friend Marcelo and his mom Megan there.

And I don't remember why this picture was taken, but they love each other in a sibling kind of way...
