Aloha Hawaii part 1

When David's company was planning a business meeting in Hawaii, we just knew we wanted to go as a family. When we realized we would only need to buy ONE plane ticket (because of accumulated miles), it wasn't a hard decision! We had just barely gotten home from our Nauvoo trip and had just enough time to do laundry and repack before catching our flight to the Big Island. Did kids did fantastic on that loooooong flight. I was amazed!

Dallin wasn't as excited as I was about landing....

By the time we got to our hotel it was very late! And we were on a 6 hour time change. Everyone passed out at the check-in counter.
But feeling refreshed the next morning, we headed for the pool! David had to work the first two days we were there. So we spent the entire first day at the pool! We did take a break and walked to the grocery store to get some food. And then we vegged out in the hotel room because we were majorly jet lagged.

Our hotel had a sand pool that Dallin adored! It was a sand bottom pool, so it felt beach-y, but was clean and didn't have scary stuff floating around in it, like the ocean.
And the hotel had free flowers with bobby pins - so us girls never went anywhere without a flower in our hair.

The next day I decided to be a little more adventurous and we hit the road headed to The City of Refuge. This place was one of the most gorgeous places I've ever been. Blue skies, black sand, lava rock, palm trees, clear water and greenery everywhere. The City of Refuge has a lot of history - it was a place that was difficult to get to long ago. But if you broke a law and could arrive at the city before being caught, then you were forgiven and set free. Most refugees had to swim there....

Carmen was in a terrible mood this morning. I'm not sure what her issue really was, but it was wearing off on everyone. I just tried to make the most of it. But no one was really in the mood for posing for pictures.  It was also like 110 degrees there.... that could have been it too.

Charlotte was trying to make a serious face, like the Tiki guy.

We spotted a secluded little beach nearby and decided to grab our suit out of the car and head over there. I really hadn't come prepared to spend a day at the beach. We didn't have any food or water with us. But, no one seemed to mind. We spent a few hours here, until I felt like I would die of hunger! We met a sweet LDS family here that had just moved to HI. She invited us to their ward the next day. And gave us pointers for some great places to go visit. We did end up seeing them the next day at church.

After the beach, we headed back to Waikoloa for a Luau at our hotel.

The guys digging up the pig that had been cooking all day underground.

My new favorite drink -  a POG = Pinapple, Orange and Guava Juice

Carmen was nervous about the lack of clothing the men had on... she was hoping there wouldn't be a big breeze!
