Coast of Maine Part II

The sun rises awfully early up north and this kid was up with the sun. But that was okay because we were ready for more exploring. Dallin and I took a walk down to our little beach while David made breakfast and the girls still slept.

After breakfast we were ready to head over to Acadia, which is on a different island from the one we were staying on. On our drive over, we stopped at a hole in the wall place for lunch, Smokey's. And I had the best bbq brisket I've ever tasted.

We were ready to do some kayaking and hoped to do it at Jordon Pond, pictured below. But turns out they don't rent kayaks there and we spend a majority of the rest of the day figuring who does rent them out and where. It was kind of a let down, but we saw a lot of beautiful scenery.

We stopped at the small beach just outside of Acadia where we saw other swimming. It was shallow and not terribly cold.

After a lot of driving, we figured out the kayak situation and had ourselves all set up to try again the next day. We headed home to enjoy the gorgeous sunset from our lighthouse tower.

We could see clear across the bay with these giant binoculars. And even see the whites of the eyes of the fishermen who floated by collecting lobster from their traps.

There's something so cool about a spiral stair case.

Finally, the next day our kayaking dreams were coming true. We ended up going out on Long Pond. It was a little crowded, but we still loved it. The kids made it a few hours before needing to head back.

I'm not sure who let him be the navigator, but we made it back okay.

It was an adventure for sure! Everything we had hoped for and more. Next time we'll tackle ocean kayaking.

After swimming a little, we had worked up an appetite and headed into Bar Harbor to find some dinner. We ended up at the Seaside Grill, which we actually ate at twice on our trip.

After eating we headed down to the southern shore of Mt. Desert Island to the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse. This first view was a little underwhelming. But then we headed down a path around the below the lighthouse and it was really beautiful.

I just love those rocky shorelines so much that I made myself comfortable on this one.

The pictures don't do it justice, but we had to walk down a lot of rickety steps to get to the bottom. I wish I gotten a different angle from up higher.

And while leaving Bar Harbor and heading back to Deer Isle, we discovered the LL Bean outlet...oh boy! Let's just say we visited here more than once and we probably spent most of our vacation funds here. It was a fun store!

Here's a few pictures of the inside of our super fun house. It really was a cool place.
