October 2018

I always think that each month I'm not going to have much to write about, but then it turns out we were busy after all. Maybe not always with the most exciting things, but things that are important to us. This is our life!
I knew I had finally arrived as the mom to a boy when I could quick whip up this jet pack for Dallin. He was pretty thrilled with it.
Carmen got to play in the high school as part of an opportunity the 8th graders had to come visit and get to see how the band program works at the high school. It being at a high school football game brought back so many great memories for me, but at the same time made me feel really old and out of touch with anything cool. But Carmen did a great job and really loved the experience.

Since David has started school, he's found that he has a LOT of time on his hands. So in an effort of connect with me and do something meaningful, he bought a water color set and had us both try to paint some pictures. It was pretty fun to do together, but I don't think either of us are going to be the next Monet.

Charlotte has decided to try out the ukulele and is taking a class before school. Here Carmen is trying to help her read the music. I thought it was a sweet moment.
On our annual trip to the pumpkin patch this year, we actually picked our own pumpkins. The day was gorgeous and everyone was in a good mood.
Chiles Orchard is located right here in Crozet and is nestled right up against the Blue Ridge Mountains. Its just so beautiful there, no matter what time of year you go.

Everyone picked their own pumpkin...and we were a little shocked when we went to pay seeing how much those 4 pumpkins cost! But it's all about the experience, right?

I went with Charlotte on a field trip to Camp Albemarle. We learned all about the water shed and how to keep our water clean. I felt like I learned a lot, but the kids mostly seemed bored.

Remember that big tree we cut down? The wood all had to be chopped for fire wood. So David and Dallin got to work with the wood splitter and chopped wood. I was so worried someone was going to lose a hand, but they were very careful.

Ever since we moved into Ivy Springs, we've had water problems in our basement. We finally decide it was time to fix the problem, but that meant we had to dig up our front yard and add water proofing and drainage to the foundation of the house. I was sad about it at first, but I do love the final product. It meant new garden beds with new plants and trees. And a beautiful new sidewalk. I don't have a final picture but will have to take one. It was a muddy mess for several weeks though!

Halloween rolled around and we were off the trunk or treat at church. This year we had a mouse, and ninja, a 50's girl (again) and Cleopatra.
At church we are also having a big push on missionary work, so I was so proud of my kids for each inviting a friend to come. Dallin with Matt:

Charlotte and Roe
 Aliza with Kate
Carmen invited a friend to another activity. But these girls had a Cinderella theme going on. There was the mouse, Cinderella, and the fairy godmother.

School pictures - for some reason I only took pictures of these 2. Dallin absolutely refused to wear the shirt that I had bought him. I was pretty sad about, but the picture still turned out cute.

And for the rest of the month David and I were gone to Brazil!! Aunt Rebecca and Uncle Jeremy and their kids came from California to watch our kids. I think it was pretty much a part the entire time, even though our kids still had to go to school. Here is the picture I got from Rebecca of all the kids ready to go trick or treating. Her family had a Wizard of Oz theme.
She also took the kids down to Southern Virginia College for a little tour. I've wanted to take my kids down there, but just never made it happen. So I'm glad they got to go! It's such a beautiful place.
