September 2020

David and I took a quick getaway to Gettysburg before school started. This is another place I had never been, yet lived so close to my whole life. It was a quick trip, so we did the driving tour of the battlefield and then went to see one of the oldest covered bridges left in the country. They claim that it's haunted, but we didn't have any strange encounters. The battlefield felt like sacred ground and gave me a much greater appreciation for my country and my forefathers.

The first day of school finally rolled around, two weeks later than it normally starts. We were all feeling super apprehensive about starting school virtually. It didn't go so well when they were abruptly pushed to virtual learning in the Spring, so we all had our worries about doing this again. But we went out of our way to make sure each kids had their own space to study and learn, which actually didn't last long because they needed more space and needed to move around more often. I would find them in different places around the house during the day. But ultimately everyone has chosen to stick to their own room for school time. We joked about back to school shopping. I told everyone they were just getting new shirts because that's all you can see on Zoom anyways.

Some like outside for studying, others like it at the table, some in their rooms...some change for each class... you gotta mix things up when your stuck at home ALL.THE.TIME.

The home office even got a makeover thanks to IKEA

Random picture of these two at the dump on a Saturday work day.

Aliza and I tackled a room makeover for her. She's the last one to get their room painted. She really wanted to try wallpaper, which I've never done. But we decided to try it and it wasn't so bad! I love the look it gave her room. We decided that we are going to start our own HGTV show about a mom and a TEEN daughter who DIY fun teen themed rooms.

To go along with my DIY learning, I've learned a lot about plumbing this month. David learned how to replace toilets and I learned how to replace sink faucets, and we did the the whole house! It's the little things that make the whole house feel nicer.

Carmen will soon be getting her drivers permit and we decided we're going to need a kids car. So we spent a day test driving cars and decided to take this Mini Cooper for a spin. Oh boy, was it squishy!!! That car was not built for us!
Jet and Smokey are fitting right in at their new home. They are supposed to be outdoor cats, but they regularly make it inside for snuggles.
