With the end of Summer comes trying to squeeze in all the fun you can before you head back to school. One day I got a random phone call from a childhood friend who said she was passing through Saint Joseph and asked if I wanted to meet up. I quickly dropped everything and drove the 40 mins to see my friend Marianne, who I hadn't seen in maybe 20 years. We ate lunch at Silver Beach Pizza and watched the sunset over the lake.
Then the 2nd Annual Cedar Point trip happened! This year I couldn't go, so naturally there aren't many pictures. But here are a few. I think this is going to become a tradition every year.
Ok, we had the most epic water slide in our backyard one night for Mutual. All the youth came over and just had the craziest fun time on this hill. It may have ruined our grass, but it was totally worth the mess. We were all laughing so hard and no one even got hurt, so it was a win/win. Everyone was a little timid at first, but once they got going, it got a little wild.
Aliza and I have wanted to visit this lavender farm ever since moving here. We finally made it happen a few weeks ago. It was small and we were the only ones there, but we learned about the different types of lavender while Dallin mostly just ran from the 100's of bees there. Despite the bees it was such a peaceful spot with so many fragrant flowers. We of course had to try the famous lavender lemonade which was so refreshing.
This summer Dallin has learned something new about himself. He loves to cook and bake! He introduced me to Nick DiGiovanni's cookbook and he quickly marked all the things he wanted to make, starting with the chocolate chip cookies. Now these things were amazing!!!! Better than Crumble cookie for sure. He's made several other things from the book, like smash burgers and has even learned how to brown the butter for the cookies.
I took Dallin school shopping and here he is giving me a fashion show of what he got. I didn't like it one bit because he looked too grown up! My baby is starting middle school and I'm not ready for that!
Dallin had his friend Clark over to make cookies together. These two always want to be in the kitchen making something. They leave it a mess every time, but I love that they are learning kitchen skills.
It's a right of passage to have an older sibling teach you how to open your locker when you start middle school. Dallin was a ball of nerves at his open house, especially about his locker. Charlotte was patient and tried to teach him all the tricks.
A new thing for Aliza is sideline cheer this Fall. I can barely stand how darling she looks in her sideline uniform (which she isn't wearing in this picture) with those pom poms and engaging the student section with cheers. I hardly pay any attention to the game because I'm just watching the cheerleaders. This game was before school even started this year.
Koda Bear on the first day of school waiting patiently for the kids to get home.
And here we go - this is a big year for everyone! Dallin starting middle school, Charlotte starting high school, Aliza in her JR year and Carmen starting college in a few weeks. It felt weird to have a first day of school without Carmen though.
Dallin is also trying something new; Cross Country. He was so nervous for his first meet and so was I, but he did great and didn't want to quit the team, so I took that as a good thing. We'll wait and see how this plays out.
