Detroit Trip - Part 2

Our trip continued as we traveled over to Dearborn, MI.

We attended the ward that a missionary from our home ward is serving in. We were able to take him and his companion out for dinner. Elder Tripp was our home teacher (and occasional babysitter) before leaving on his mission.

Finally we were arriving at the "oh so marvelous" Henry Ford Museum. I really was not expecting this place to be all that interesting.... but boy howdy was I wrong! This place was so much fun. Unfortunatly, I tried to fit all the "Detroit attractions" into one day, which simply was NOT enough time. We could have done each of these different places on a different day each never had gotten bored. I mean we got to see the Wiener Mobile!!! How cool is that?!
Each kid took a turn being a hot dog. Here the kids are trying to eat Carmen.
 Dallin was in tractor/train/plane/car heaven!!
They have the very bus that Rosa Parks was on. Carmen was very interested in this exhibit. It was fascinating to hear the story in Rosa Parks own words.

In this picture below Carmen is sitting in the very spot where Mrs. Parks sat when she made history.
Now Aliza's turn in her seat.

Dallin could barely look at the camera because he was so excited about the airplane exhibits.
This is the car Carmen wants when she turns 16.
TRAINS!! By this point of the day I was feeling like we really needed to rush things along because we had tickets to two other places and it was already lunch time. We unfortunately to Dallin's dismay, we rushed through the train section. And he cried for a long time about it. But I kept promising him that we had tickets to ride on a real train....

Outside the museum is Greenfield Village. I would compare it to Nauvoo or Williamsburg, with old colonial homes. This place was large and we maybe was 1/4 of it. Everyone was tired and hungry and Dallin was crying most of the time about leaving the trains. Oh, did I mention this was also our first stroller free vacation?! It was nice to not have to deal with a stroller but when Dallin was throwing a royal fit, and I was in a rush and it was sooo hot.... I just wished we had the stroller. Greenfield village looked like a lot of fun, but we didn't see a lot of it.

They did have one of the funnest playgrounds I've ever seen. Dallin loved running through this tunnel.
Finally, we reached the train ride! Dallin was so excited to ride the choo choo.
Unfortunately, he had worn himself out so much by this time that he missed most of the ride.... I think we rode it a couple of times just so he could sleep.
At this point we met David to go to the Rouge Factory where the Ford F150 are made. I was really fascinated by this place. It was amazing to watch how they assemble these vehicles. And David pointed out the places where Ford was using some of technology from Frontline.
Since we did everything in one day, we still have an extra day to spend while David still had meetings. So we went back to the museum's IMAX and saw a movie about Penguins and ate some lunch. We also visited the museum store and got some giants treats!
On this trip the girls all wanted to buy hats! We took a trip to the mall and everyone was able to find some cute hats. They kept getting compliments on then the whole week.
Overall, David was right. This was such a fun spot to bring the family. I'm glad we took the opportunity to go.
