Burano, Venice to Monterosso

Day 7: Today we took a very long and hot boat trip from Venice over to Burano, a tiny totally cute little island full of the most colorful houses. Around every corner I wanted to snap a picture because it was all so charming. We mostly just walked around, took in the scenery, ate gelato and sweat to death! Carmen and Charlotte both wore their $10 dresses they bought the day before. Then we had dinner with our friends that used to live in Charlottesville, Megan and Erik Hansen who live near Venice as part of the military.

When you order pizza with fries, you literally get fries on your pizza! It wasn't a big hit for Charlotte.

Day 8???: I’ve lost track of what day it is. Today wasn’t a super exciting day. We said goodbye to Venice and took the train to Cinque Terre. This meant we went from coast to coast in Italy. It was our first train experience and one we won’t soon forget. It has been so hot here, hotter than I ever imagined. We arrived in the little old fishing village of Monterosso in Cinque Terre around 6pm. After a wild goose hunt for our Airbnb, we immediately changed into our swimsuits, had some dinner (pizza!) and headed straight for the beach. The water was so cool and wonderful!!! We spent the late hours of the night completing Carmen’s summer course assignments and project that are due today. #bootohomeworkinitaly

Leaving our Airbnb in Venice

But first had to leave our trash at the trash boat

Goodbye Venice... heading to the train station

We spent several hours in a non air conditioned car and it was pretty miserable.

But other train cars started to empty out and we were able to find 6 seats in one with air conditioning. Life was much better after that.

Our Airbnb in Cinque Terre was a bit of a hunt to find.

We dropped our packs and immediately changed into swimsuits to head to the beach. We've been sweltering in the sun for 8 days and were finally ready to take a dip in the ocean.

(We went somewhere else that DID serve pizza) ;)
